Alku & Unikko Eggcup – / Set Of 2 – Marimekko

This set consists of two sandstone egg cups decorated with two iconic patterns from the Marimekko brand: the Alku pattern designed by young Finnish illustrator Maija Louekari and the Unikko pattern by Maija Isola. Alku’s bean-like shapes represent seeds that grow into beautiful, vigorous flowers. They symbolise a new beginning, like spring, hence the name Alku – in Finnish, “beginning”. Marimekko’s famous Unikko poppy pattern was created in 1964, at a time when the design house’s collections mostly contained abstract prints. Designer Maija Isola wanted to make this organic theme something interesting and created a whole series of floral prints. Today, the iconic flower is synonymous with creativity.
